Clatskanie
Clatskanie, a community of just over 1700 residents, is located on coastal Highway 30. Sixty-five miles west of Portland and fifty miles east of Seaside. The community is located close to any type of family recreation desired.
The community considers children a priority; strong sports associations, an active Kiwanis Club, strong ties between community partners concentrating on issues involving youth, a community sponsored youth recreation center, a long standing Parks and Recreation department and a large city park with skate board facilities offer services to local youth and families.
A local food bank and social service agency plus numerous churches offer services to families who need added support. A variety of stores and shops are dispersed throughout the retail area to meet basic and a few specialty shopping needs.
Visitors as well as new members of the community boast of Clatskanie’s warm, friendly, family oriented atmosphere.
Clatskanie Head Start offers 3 classes, 2 at the main center and one located in the Elementary School building. This class also offers part of the enrollment under Oregon State’s Preschool Promise Program. The Clatskanie center also offers a 4th class at a satellite location in the near by community of Rainier, OR. The Rainier Head Start class is on the Rainier School District campus.
