St. Helens Head Start

St. Helens, located in southeastern Columbia County, Oregon, sits along the Columbia River, about 30 miles northwest of Portland. St. Helens is the county seat for Columbia County.  This city offers views of five snow-capped mountains: Mount St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Jefferson. The Old Town area of St. Helens, a Nationally Registered Historic District, spans 10 blocks and features a mix of residential and civic buildings that reflect its rich history. Originating as a settlement for New England loggers, St. Helens also has a history in basalt rock quarrying from the early 1900s.

Today, the local economy is supported by industries including forest products, mining, and manufacturing. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, and kayaking in the area.

At the heart of this community is the St. Helens Head Start Center, a beacon of learning and growth. Serving the families and children of Scappoose, Warren, Columbia City, Deer Island, and the local St. Helens area, the center is dedicated to nurturing young minds and fostering a bright future for our children. The St. Helens Center offers 6 classes, with 4 at the main center and one in collaboration of the St. Helens school district, located at Lewis & Clark Elementary.  The last class is in collaboration with Scappoose school district and located at Warren Elementary School.
